Novosti Singles out JTA As ‘most Active Propagandist of Zionism’

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency has been singled out by Novosti, the Soviet Union’s external press agency, as “The most active propagandist of Zionism” and “the mouthpiece of the World Zionist Organization.” That description is contained in a pamphlet entitled “Anti-Communism. The Main Line of Zionism” by V. Bolshakov, published by the Novosti Press Agency Publishing House in Moscow in 1972.

The pamphlet was brought to the attention of the JTA today by Malcolm Hoenlein, director of the Greater New York Conference on Soviet Jewry which monitors Soviet propaganda activities in the United States.

The pamphlet, written in English, also names the New York Times, “owned by Zionist capital” as “another publicity agent” for the Zionists. It claims further that the JTA and at least a dozen other Jewish and Zionist organizations were involved in an alleged conspiracy to cause a “counter-revolution” in Czechoslovakia in 1968, the year the Warsaw Pact nations led by the USSR invaded that country to overthrow the Dubcek regime.

Bolshakov contends that Zionist organizations and the JTA were responsible for the ferment in Poland which led to an official anti-Zionist and anti-Jewish purge in 1968-69.

LEADING GROUPS TERMED ANTI-SOVIET

The pocket-size pamphlet, nearly 100 pages in length, contains diatribes against Zionism, Israel and major Jewish organizations in the U.S. and abroad which are alleged sources of anti-Soviet propaganda and activities in the interest of Israel.

The organizations named include the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, American Zionist Federation, National Women’s League of the United Synagogue of America, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council, the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS), and the “American Jewish Conference on Soviet Jewry.” The last named organization changed its name last year to the National Conference on Soviet Jewry.

The pamphlet asserts, “The most active propagandist of Zionism, of course, is the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the mouthpiece of the World Zionist Organization, to finance which 135 ‘social welfare funds’ controlled by the American Jewish Federation have been set up in the U.S.A.”

ADMINISTRATION TOOL OF ZIONIST CARTEL

According to Bolshakov, “The influence of this powerful machine on public opinion in the U.S.A. and on the people who make American foreign policy cannot be underestimated. The Zionist cartel is making active use of the virtually unlimited financial and propaganda possibilities of its U.S. center in its ‘psychological war’ against the Soviet Union and other socialist countries.”

The pamphlets claim further that “the lobby for international Zionism” has a “smoothly functioning machine for mobilizing public opinion, and fantastic connections with leading American political and public figures, and can bring pressure to bear not only on individual Congressmen and Cabinet members but even on the leadership of both political parties, including the man in the White House. It has thousands of millions of dollars at its disposal and controls four-fifths of the U.S. and international wire services catering for periodicals over practically the entire capitalist world,” the pamphlet says.
