WE PUBLISH today elsewhere in this issue a powerful statement by Lion Feuchtwanger which he recently contributed to the second volume of the Brown Book, entitled “Dimitroff Versus Goering.” The new Brown Book contains a list of eight hundred people who have been murdered during the Hitler regime. Feuchtwanger calls upon the Hitler government to have this list of murders investigated by honest judges. The Hitler government will, of course, remain silent on this point. For, as Feuchtwanger correctly says, the Hitler government maintains itself by systematic lying. Without its falsehood-apparatus it would collapse overnight.
Feuchtwanger’s courageous and impassioned denunciation of the reign of terror and falsehood now prevailing in the Third Reich should stir the conscience of the world. It is high time that the present sadistic rulers of Germany, who are brazenly hoodwinking the rest of the world, be exposed in all their horrible nakedness. It will be found that all their intellectual equipment consists of the Joly-Goedsche-Nilus “Protocols of the Wise Men of Zion” and all their anti-Jewish weapons are those of the Tsarist pogromists. Only the Nazis are employing them with typical German thoroughness and ruthlessness. The lie-apparatus created by Hitler, feeding venomous propaganda at home and abroad, is continually grinding out heaps of falsehoods. How long yet can Hitler go on deceiving arrogantly the rest of the world?
“THE POPE IS A JEW”
Hitler’s organ, the Voelkischer Beobachter, in discussing the conflict between the Church of Rome and Nazi government, offers a novel explanation as to why Pope Pius XI is opposed to Hitlerism. It writes:
“The Pope’s grandmother was a Dutch Jewess named Lippmann. The Pope is a Jew.”
Hitler has discovered that Pope Pius’ grandmother was a Jewess. The fact that this is published in the Nazi bible, the Voelkische Beobachter, is sufficient to make the deluded German masses believe it. On such absurdities are the German people fed by the Hitler lie-apparatus.
“THE NORDIC CHRIST”
According to the London Observer the “Nordic Christ” in the Oberammergau Passion Play will have to wait till the next festival. The Observer writes:
“It had been intended to present a Teutonized Passion Play at Oberammergau this year with ‘a Nordic Christ’ (probably resembling Siegfried) and German scenery. But, for box-office reasons, the changes have been postponed till the next festival; and the main innovation this summer will be a paid claque to hiss Judas whenever he appears on the stage. Strict justice would no doubt have demanded an equal applause for the central figure, but at the moment the Nazi finds it easier to hate the Jew than to admire him.”
Apparently there is no limit to the stupidity of the Nazi “Aryans.”
CRIME AND PUNISHMENT
Three anti-Semites in Soviet Russia were sentenced to imprisonment for having persecuted a Jewish engineer to such an extent that he committed suicide. One of the anti-Semites, accused of having persecuted the Jewish engineer, committed suicide during the trial.
While anti-Semitism still exists in Soviet Russia, as a remnant of Tsarism and its pogrom policy, the Soviet government deals drastically with this crime. Anti-Semitism is identified with reaction and counter-revolution in Russia, just as it is part and parcel of all slimy, retrogressive, mercenary organizations seeking to undermine all movements toward progress, enlightenment and peace.
