The Yeshivah has issued an appeal for financial help. The response to this appeal on the part of Orthodox Jewry in the United States should be generous and prompt. The Yeshivah College, the only Jewish college in America and the Yeshivah itself constitute the reservoir of traditional Judaism in this country and of Jewish education upon the highest plane.
The Yeshivah College was organized, as aptly explained by Dr. Revel, president of the faculty, “not in competition with any other college, but as a medium for the continuance of the fundamental Jewish values of faith and culture, for the maintenance of the Jewish spiritual standards, as one of the contributing forces in the development of American life. It is in this direction, and with this aim, that the work of Yeshivah College was inaugurated and is now widened, to extend to a chosen body of mentally equipped and spiritually inclined students, the opportunity of developing an attitude of cultural and spiritual harmony, with which to face the problems of American life, and to bring into the complex aspects and values of American civilization, the contribution of Jewish steadfastness and faith, of the Jewish culture and point of view, to increase in their measure the manysided wisdom and spiritual strength and devotion to ideals that should be the mark of America’s progress in the world.”
The Yeshivah College has drawn a number of distinguished Jewish and non-Jewish scholars to its faculty and students from various parts of the United States and other countries. Some of the students have come from Palestine and Syria. The educational standards at Yeshivah College have already been recognized by eminent educators as very high. The graduates of Yeshivah College are equipped not only for spiritual leadership but are also prepared for the pursuit of other professional careers. Some of the graduates have already distinguished themselves for their scholarship and the promotion of the finest Jewish ideals.
The Yeshivah was established by the Orthodox Jews of America. It is their finest contribution to American Jewish cultural life.
The recent years of financial depression have substantially affected the revenues of the Yeshivah. These have been years of extreme hardship for the Yeshivah administration. Nevertheless the Yeshivah has continued to make extraordinary progress even during this period of financial distress. The directors, and particularly the presi-
