The coordinating board established by the Israel Government and the Jewish Agency for the purpose of settling problems concerning absorption of immigrants met today under the chairmanship of Premier David Ben Gurion and heard a report on the situation in the immigrant camps in Israel.
The report revealed that the number of immigrants in the camps has declined during the past month from 90,000 to 69,000, despite the arrival of 12,000 now immigrants. At its meeting today the Board elected a special committee to regulate immigration during the poriod from October to January.
The Jewish Agency will seek to relieve the congestion existing in the coastal plain area of Israel as well as to liquidate the “unproductive” immigrant reception camps, which cost approximately $43,000,000 annually to maintain, it was learned today, Among other projects which the Agency is planning are the planting of vineyards in the Jerusalem hills and the establishment of factories at Migdal God.
