Israelis suffered a number of casualties in the shooting attack by Syrians yesterday, Israel officials reported today. The Syrians attacked an Israeli tractor working fields north of kibbutz Dan near the Syrian border. Israelis returned the fire.
The tractor driver was hit in the back by a bullet and a number of border guards were injured by splinters. Israeli counter-fire silenced one of two Syrian tanks which took part in the attack. It appeared that the Syrians were placing tanks for armored gun positions all along the border. The tractor had been working on fields consistently cultivated by Israeli farmers without interruption by the Syrian border positions.
