Establishment of a $25,000 non-sectarian nursing home for British children in England in the name of Mrs. Sara Delano Roosevelt, mother of the President, was announced today as the first project of the newly formed Women’s Division of the Jewish Section of the Interfaith Committee for Aid to the Democracies. The home will be presented through the British War Relief Society, and will be dedicated in September to coincide with her 87th birthday.
Announcement of this project was made at a tea and reception held at the Hotel Pierre by the Women’s Division in honor of Lady Marley. A telegram from Mrs. Roosevelt, read at the reception, stated: “I am very happy to accept the kind offer to name a hospital for me. All good wishes.”
The Women’s Division is headed by Mrs. L. Oppenheimer, chairman, and Mrs. Max Furman, as vice chairman. Speakers at the reception included lady Marley, Lavy Bakstansky, Dr. Maurice L. Perlzweig, chairman of the British Section of the World Jewish Congress, and Dr. Israel Goldstein, chairman of the Jewish Section of the Interfaith Committee, who presided.
