Colonel Eugene Oberdorfer, Jr., insurance agency head and prominent member of the local Jewish community, was retired from the Georgia National Guard with promotion to the rank of brigadier general.
The order elevating Colonel Oberdorfer and announcing his retirement in recognition of a long and distinguished service in the military was issued by Governor L. G. Hardman. Up to his retirement, General Oberdorfer was assistant adjutant-general of the national guard and one of the most widely-known officials of the organization.
He retires as brigadier after the equivalent of 20 years of service in the United States army and Georgia militia, including active duty with the "Fighting Fifth" regiment on the Mexican border and with the American expeditionary forces abroad.
