Observance of Independence Day was concluded here last night with the distribution of 15 annual “Israel Prizes” to outstanding figures in theology and the arts and sciences. The awards carry a cash prize of 1, 000 pounds. Recipients were:
Prof. Haim, Schirman, for Judaic studies; Rabbi Reuven Margolioth, for theology; Dr. Yochanan Levi (deceased) for philosophy; Yaacov Pichman and Ur Zvi Greenberg, for belles letters; Eliezer Shmueli, for juvenile writing; Dr. Z. Lehman, for education; P. Daikam, for sociology; Prof. S. Hestrin, Dr. M. Feingold and Gad Avigad, for the exact sciences; Prof. Saul Adler, for medicine; Prof. H. Horowitz, for agriculture; Dov Carmi, for architecture, and P. Ben Haim for music and the arts.
