George Washington Ochs-Oakes, who died on Oct. 26, 1931, a brother to Adolph S. Ochs, publisher of The New York Times, left a gross estate valued at $439,877, according to an appraisal of the State Transfer Tax Department made yesterday.
Of this sum, $10,000 went to the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, $2,000 to the New York Times Neediest Cases Fund, $3,000 to the Chattanooga Times Neediest Cases Fund, $1,000 to the Library of Chattanooga and other institutions there. Five thousand dollars was designated for an addition to the Ochs Memorial Synagogue in that city.
Relatives and friends shared in the residue.
