“Waiting for Lefty,” the sensational one-act play about New York’s taxi strike written by Clifford Odets, brilliant young Jewish dramatist, is being exposed to audiences all over the country, the Group Theater reports.
While the production continues to flourish at the Longacre despite the advent of the dog days ahead of schedule, the short play with the stirring technique has been seen to date in the following places:
Hollywood, Pittsburgh, Boston, Cleveland, Providence, New Haven, Conn.; Lansing, Mich., and Cambridge, Chelsea, Northampton and Roxbury, all in Massachusetts.
The New Theater Players, who put on some of the foregoing productions, also have performances scheduled in Bennington, Vt.; Provincetown, Mass., and numerous other New England towns.
Productions are being planned also for a dozen other large cities from coast to coast. The censor stepped in to interfere with “Lefty” in Boston, New Haven and Chelsea, Mass., the latter being the most recent instance of difficulties, the Group said.
