A little over $2,000,000, half of the $4,000,000 being sought to establish the first undergraduate medical school in Palestine, has already been raised and the remainder is expected during the coming year, it as announced here today at a pre-convention breakfast attended by several hundred leaders of Hadassah who have been active in the medical school drive which is sponsored by the organization and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The convention opens ##crrow and will last through next Tuesday. It will be attended by some 3,000 delegates and 2,000 guests.
Chaim Yassky, director of the Hadassah medical organization in Palestine, principal speaker at the gathering, reported that the medical school would open in the fall of 1948 with 50 students in the first class. Stressing the need of ad##ate medical care for the masses of DP’s which Palestine expects to receive shortly, ##sky declared that increased hospital care, public health, mental hygiene, child ##lfare and sereening for tuberculosis will be as important as housing and jobs in ## projected Jewish state.
