The Jewish community of Jerusalem through its communal council, the Vaad Ha’ir, persistently continues its fight to establish its right to the Tomb of Rachel, which has of late become a subject of dispute.
Jewish leaders submitted to the antiquities department of the Palestine government documents proving that in 1906 the Jews of Jerusalem undertook repair work at the Tomb with the permission of the Arab mayor. This action was taken with a view to causing the government to permit the Jews to undertake new repair work now needed.
