The desecration of a Jewish memorial monument at the site of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, was condemned today by Richard Lehners, Interior Minister of Lower Saxony. In a telegram to the Jewish community, Lehners expressed his government’s sorrow at the act and promised that every effort would be made to find the criminals “who smeared the memory of the war victims.” Last week-end unknown vandals painted anti-Semitic slogans, such as “Jews get out,” on the monument.
