Official figures in regard to the payment of Palestine’s share of the debt of the former Turkish Empire were published here today.
The Palestine Government will have to pay, according to the decision reached at the last conference of the Interallied Debt Commission in Constantinople, the sum of 115,737 Turkish pounds in March, 1925; in March, 1926, 255,644 Turkish pounds, after which Palestine will pay 173,000 Turkish pounds in annuities. Palestine will also have to pay 83,503 Turkish pounds annually in the course of the next 20 years, on account of the past four years. After 20 years, Palestine will have to pay 5,514 Turkish pounds annually.
Dissatisfaction with the arrangement of Palestine’s payment of the Turkish debt, was expressed on account of the fact that this sum was allotted on the ground of including unduly into the revenues of Palestine the receipts of the Hejds Railway. An appeal to the League of Nations in this regard will be made.
