Officials in Vienna announced construction would soon begin on the city’s Holocaust memorial. Construction was set to begin in 1996, but delays occurred after Jewish groups complained that the proposed memorial would sit on the site of a synagogue destroyed in the 15th century. The city decided to move the site slightly from its original location.
