The First Hungarian Congregation Ohab Zedek celebrated its fiftieth anniversary last night with a dinner at the Hotel Astor, attended by more than 1,000 persons. Rabbi Philip Klein announced the congregation’s intention of raising $500,000 for a religious school.
President Coolidge, in a letter to Moritz Neumann, President of the Synagogue, said the congregation “has always taken a prominent part in the movements for the betterment of American citizens, and in all charitable and benevolent enterprises.”
Similar expressions were sent by Governorr Smith, Supreme Court Justice Irving Lehman and Felix M. Warburg, City Court Justice Gustave Hartman presided. Speakers included Federal Judge Julian W. Mack, Borough President Julius Miller, Mr. Neuman and Rabbis Joseph Schwartz and William Sirovich.
