The Daily Herald reports from Jerusalem today that pipes owned by the Iraq Petroleum Company were dynamited Sunday by Bedouin tribesmen.
The report states the company recently employed 1,000 armed Benisakr tribesmen to defend its property. Aware of this, rival sheikhs, said to have been influenced by Palestine agitators, threatened to blow-up the pipes unless similarly subsidized.
The Government has warned, according to the Herald’s correspondent, that crushing fines will be imposed on the tribes responsible for the sabotage.
Six planes are now patrolling the area through which the oil-bearing pipes run and detachments from the Transjordan frontier forces have been rushed to the scene.
The situation is described as tense, with clashes between the rival tribes feared hourly.
