An official communique announced today that a section of old Jaffa will be torn down tomorrow to allow construction of two roads to the harbor under supervision of military engineers.
Dynamite will be used to destroy 98 Arab houses in the section. Evacuation of Arab families was started shortly before noon today, with detachments of troops on hand to guard against possible disorders. Police took advantage of the opportunity to conduct a rigorous search for arms in the condemned houses.
An airplane circled low over Jaffa this morning scattering leaflets warning the inhabitants of the Government’s plans.
The police station is being moved to the Jaffa Tel Aviv road.
