One American, Izler Solomon, conductor, and two Israelis, Shabtai Petrushka, musicologist, and Zvi Zeitlin, violinist, were named today to receive the “America-Israel Music Awards for 1957” for “their efforts in forging close cultural ties between the people of the United States and Israel through the medium of music.”
The awards will be presented during the intermission of the America-Israel Society Concert at Carnegie Hall October 15. Mr. Solomon was the first American to be issued a visa to enter Israel when the new state was proclaimed in 1948. During that first visit, he conducted approximately 40 concerts in three months.
