One of the leading members of Israel’s new centrist party said he had established “important dialogue” with American Jewish groups during a visit last week to the United States. Amnon Lipkin-Shahak would not disclose how much money he had raised during the meetings, but said most of his discussions were with non-Orthodox groups who were concerned about issues of religious pluralism in Israel. Shahak soon is planning to return to the United States with the centrist party’s candidate for prime minister, Yitzhak Mordechai.
