One-third of the respondents in recent West German public opinion polls have revealed strong anti-Semitic tendencies in their reaction to test questions. Dr. Carl-Christoph Schweitzer, a high Bonn Government official, reported to a three-day meeting of German intellectuals on “Anti-Semitism and German History.”
Dr. Schweitzer, whose department is responsible for strengthening democracy in West Germany and combatting remnants of the Nazi philosophy, asserted that advocates of open anti-Semitism in this country, the avowedly neo-Nazi groups and parties, have declined in strength.
The conference was held under the auspices of the Evangelical Academy at nearby Locoum for 70 persons. The academy device is used by the Protestant Church to bring together adults to discuss important questions of the day.
