Plans for settlement or a lengthy stay in Israel for 1, 000 South African Jews this year have been developed by the South African Zionist Federation, the Jewish Agency announced here today.
This figure will represent a 150 percent increase over the 1960 totals. The plans call for 800 immigrants, and 200 service pioneer university students, and scientists coming for several years.
Plans also anticipate some 500 Jews coming from South Africa for shorter periods. These will include participants in seminars and conferences. Last year 350 settlers and 50 long-term visitors came from South Africa.
