Only about 4,000 new land workers will be settled in the Ukrainia this year, according to official information made known today.
This figure represents 1,000 more than the number of families settled in the previous year, but considerably less than was expected, due to the lack of means. Seventy-five per cent of the settlers are assisted by funds coming from the Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Colonization Association (Ica), the rest by the Ozet, the Jewish society for settling Jews on the land.
The settling work this year is just beginning, the delay being due to the lack of means and also due to the fact that the peasants’ winter crop was still standing on part of the land, the peasants having been leascholders of the land.
