The Pavilion Theatre in Whitechapel. the only Jewish Theatre in England, which was closed recently for the purpose of demolition and conversion into a moving picture house, is to be continued as a Jewish Theatre, it is now announced.
The negotiations for the conversion of the Theatre into a cinema, it is stated, have fallen through and the proprietor has been influenced by Jewish public opinion. J. W. Rosenthal the proprietor, states that the Theatre will be re-opened on September 5th.
The Israel Frieclsender Essay Contest. which is conducted annually by the Young People’s League of the United Synagogue of America, closed on July let with the announcement of the winners. The first prize consisting of $25 in books was awarded to Irving Davidion of Aushe Chesed Center, New York. who, was the winner of the first prize last year The second prize $15 in books. went to Israel Eisenstein of New York City, and the third prize. $10 in books, was awarded to Miss Jeanette Becker of the Israel Friedlaender Classes. New York. who. last year. won the second prize in the contest.
