The Van Leer steel drum factory here, the only of its kind in Israel, is closing down because of a shortage of materials, resulting from the Korean war situation. All employees of the firm are being dismissed. Israel needs about 250,000 steel drums annually. The closing of this plant will affect the export of paints, food products and chemicals from Israel.
