Puccini’s “La Tosca” will be sung for the first time at the New York Hippodrome by Max Rabinoff’s Cosmopolitan Opera Association tonight to open the third week of popular priced grand opera in the Sixth Avenue theatre. Anne Roselle will interpret the title role, Armand Tokatyan will be the Cavaradosi and Carlo Morelli, the Scarpia.
Two other new productions will be added to the repertory during the week. Next Friday “Rigoletto” will be given for the first time, and next Saturday night “Faust” will have its Hippodrome premiere, with Nanette Guilford as Marguerite, Armand Tokatyan as Faust, and Chase Baromeo as Mephistopheles.
There will be no performance tomorrow night, when the theatre will be used for a members’ concert. The Cosmopolitan Opera Association, a non-profit-making organization, from time to time will make use of the Hippodrome for meetings of its members.
The program for the week follows: Sunday, Puccini’s “La Tosca” at 8:15; Monday, concert, Tuesday, Saint-Saens’ “Samson et Dalila” at 8:15; Wednesday, Moussorgsky’s “Boris Godounoff” at 8:00; Saturday matinee, Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at 1:45; Saturday evening, Gounod’s “Faust” at 8:15.
