An order effecting reductions in customs tariffs to exampt from customs duties raw materials required in industry and agriculture in Israel was signed here by Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan. Materials included are galvanized iron sheets, glycerine, medical supplies and surgical instruments for hospitals.
An Israel treasury spokesman denied the allegation in the United Nations report on economic development possibilities in the Middle East, made public last week at Lake Success, that the Israel Government had not applied for economic aid in any over-all assistance projects for the Middle East.
Young women in Israel now liable for one year’s national service under the military service act will have to serve two years if the Knesset approves an amendment to be proposed tomorrow by Premier David Ben Gurion. Other amendments which the Israel Premier–who also occupies the post of Minister of Defense–will introduce include a proposal providing that youths who reached their twentieth birthday on Oct. 19, 1949, may be required in the course of the present year to serve for two years in the regular army.
