Order was restored on the campus of the University of Vienna, and the extraordinary measures of protection were removed when the leaders of the anti-Semitic students’ ring were convinced that their policy of threats and violence would not succeed.
The University Senate, which met to consider the ultimatum of the anti-Semitic students’ organization, demanding the resignation of the dean for action he took to protect the Jewish students, rejected the demand and instead expressed confidence in the University officials. Members of parliament and members of the faculty who have close relations with the anti-Semitic students’ organization were instrumental in permiting the anti-Semitic students to retire gracefully from the situation created. The organization was assured “certain concessions” if it would help restore peace at the University.
