A resolution favoring the establishment of a Bureau of Information in the office of the Order Sons of Zion for the purpose of investigating inquiries with regard to land that is being sold in Palestine was referred for action to the Zionist Organization of America by the delegates attending the 17th annual convention of the Order Sons of Zion held in Long Branch, New Jersey.
Among the other resolutions adopted was one aimed to encourage the importation of Palestinian products into the United States, and one favoring the reorganization of the Committee of Jewish Delegations to serve as a medium of contact between Jewish organizations in America and Central Jewish bodies of Europe.
The convention also adopted a resolution to pledge the camps of the resolution to pledge the camps of the Order to contribute $15 per camp for the work of the Histadruth Ivrith.
The following resolutions were also adopted:
“Resolved, That the 17th annual convention of the Order Sons of Zion in Long Branch assembled hereby express our thanks to Dr. Chaim Weizmann, the International Executive, and the Vaad Haleumi for outlining and presenting the memorandum to the League of Nations.”
“The Order Sons of Zion in convention assembled reaff### its belief in the democratic organization of American Jewry for the advancement of general Jewish interests. Be it therefore.
“Resolved, That the incoming Executive Committee be authorized to select a delegation to represent the Order at this session and to take part in the carrying through of the plans to be adopted at this session.
“Be it further resolved, “That in accordance with the previous practice a per capita tax of 5 cents be levied upon the membership for the benefit of the work of the Congress.”
“Whereas. The Order Sons of Zion has long ago recognized the importance of industrial and commercial enterprises in Palestine and as the legitimate means for rebuilding the country and rehabilitating the Jewish Nation, and
“Whereas, The initiative of the Order Sons of Zion in establishing the Judea Industrial Corporation, has resulted in the organization and establishment of the Judea Insurance Company, Ltd., and the Palestine Exhibitions and Fairs Corporation. Ltd., two noteworthy institutions which are doing constructive work in Eretz Israel and
“Whereas, The membership of the Order Sons of Zion is composed largely of men active in industry and commerce, who as loyal Zionists have been in the vanguard of the new movement for developing trade and industry in Eretz Israel and
“Whereas, It has come to our attention that the present crisis in Palestine, is due largely to the want of a market for Palestine products, and.
“Whereas, There are about four million Jews in the United States of America, most of whom are in sympathy with the Zionist aspirations, and
“Whereas, The agriculture, industry and commerce of Palestine are still in their infancy, and are therefore unable to establish and maintain a foreign sales service for their products, now therefore be it
“Resolved, That we the delegates of the 17th annual convention of the Order Sons of Zion, in meeting assembled at the Scarboro Hotel, in the city of Long Branch, N. J., on the 21st day of June, 1926, hereby direct the incoming Nasi of the Order to appoint a committee of nine whose duty it shall be to promote the import of Palestine products into the United States of America, and to actively encourage the use of Palestine products in this country.”
