For the first time since Hitler came to power in 1933, an organization devoted to combatting anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry is functioning in Germany, Zachariah Shuster, European representative of the American Jewish Committee, reported at a press conference today. With the assistance of the American Jewish Committee, branches of the Lessing Society for the Promotion of Tolerance have been set up in Frankfurt, Munich, Wurzburg and other localities, he said.
“The formation of these groups, however, represents only a small contribution to the solution, of the problem,” he declared “What is essential to the success of any movement to counteract the heritage of Nazism is vigorous action for the re-education of Germany by the occupation authorities, supported by the full of American opinion.”
