Organized anti-Semitism has changed its tactics but remains as great as ever, Dr. John Slaw son, executive vice-president of the American Jewish Committee, declared here at a meeting in the Webster Hall Hotel.
"Today’s anti-Semites are using more subtle approaches to public opinion by salting public discussion of national and international issues with hate propaganda and by exploiting justifiable public anxiety concerning the threat of Communism, " Dr. Slaws on said.
"The threat of bigotry polluting the American atmosphere can best be averted by an alert American public, " Dr. Slaw son stated. "Hate-mongers and their machinations must be exposed, as the American Jewish Committee has been doing for nearly a half century. It is the obligation of respectable leaders and supporters of various movements to dissociate themselves from groups which cannot dislodge the anti-Semites, and to persuade other men of good will to do likewise.
"There is much room in the market place of ideas for opposing viewpoints on a multitude of is sues–national and international, political, social, and economic. That is the glory of American democracy. But the public must be shown how to recognize and reject the ideological counterfeiters who would pass on as legal tender their hollow coins of bigotry."
