Prof. Nichifer Crainic, expelled from the anti-Semitic National Christian Bloc he helped organize, attacked it today as “a cesspool of putrefied flesh and moral decay.”
Dr., Crainic was instrumental in forming the bloc by effecting the merger of the right-wing parties headed by Prof. Alexander Cuza and Octavius Goga. Until his expulsion he was second in command of the bloc.
In an article published in several newspapers, he assailed Prof. Cuza and Goga for “breaking the solemn oath of unity and discipline sworn at the Jassy cathedral.”
“The members of the National Christian Party will swallow each other like mythological snakes until the party disappears,” he asserted. “The death of the party is inevitable, but Rumania will have no one dangerous, the confusion will be less and the way will be clear for true Nationalists.”
Simultaneously, M. Emilian, leader of the Fiery Swastika organization opened a violent campaign against the bloc, and sanguinary clashes between members of the rival groups were reported from several points.
The anti-Semitic daily, Poruna Vremi, in an editorial, deplored the conflict with the Nationalist movement, “which tears at the hearts of the suffering spectators.”
