The Navy Department today disclosed that it has issued an official directive to all ships and stations, ordering all Commanding Officers to pay particular attention that no subject matter is used in service publications that will in any way offend the sensibility of racial or religious group.
This action came after vigorous protests made by Congressman Vito Marcantonio of New York to the Secretary of the Navy over the appearance of anti-Semitic comment in the “Bluejacket,” a publication of the U. S. Naval Training School at Memphis (Millington) Tennessee.
