Ormsby-gore Named Colonial Secretary

William G. A. Ormsby-Gore, Conservative M.P., was named today as Secretary of State for the Colonies in place of J.H. Thomas, who resigned last week in connection with a cabinet leak on budget secrets.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore has been First Commissioner of Works and a cabinet minister since November, 1931. Previously he had been Postmaster General, in the National Government and before that Under-secretary for the Colonies from 1924 to 1929. He has sat in the House of Commons since 1910.
