Ormsby-gore Upholds Jews’ Self-defence Rights in Palestine

“There are no grounds for the suggestion that Jewish citizens of Palestine do not have the same rights to self-defence as people in this country,” William G.A. Ormsby-Gore, Colonial Secretary, declared in Commons yesterday.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore made the statement in reply to the Rev. Campbell Stephen, Independent Laborite, who had asked about a statement attributed to a magistrate in Tiberias, Palestine, that a Jew should run away if he was attacked.
