The Ort Exposition was opened last night in the Federation Building, New York. United States Senator Robert F. Wagner and Joseph V. McKee, President of the Board of Aldermen of New York, addressed the gathering present at the opening. Both speakers emphasized the importance of the work of the shops, schools and farm settlements maintained by the Ort in Eastern Europe.

The aims of the organization were described by James N. Rosenberg, member of the Central Board of the Ort, and Dr. David V. Lvovitch, European representative, Judge Jacob Panken. Chairman of the American Ort and Dr. Henry Moskowitz. Chairman of the Executive Committee spoke on the significance of the exhibition. Howard S. Cullman, National Chairman of the Ort Campaign for Industrial Reconstruction, announced plans for the $1,000,000 drive. Mark Eisner. Chairman of the city campaign committee, was chairman of the evening.

In the administration room of the exhibition charts and diagrams summarize the work of the Ort. The products range from furniture to fine needle work, the efforts of 7,500 pupils, adults as well as young boys and girls, in 103 trade schools, forty-two of which are in Russia, thirty-two in Poland, 10 in Lithuania, eleven in Latvia, and one in Danzig.

The development of the Ort Tool Supply Corporation is diagramed, showing that its expenditures have increased from $3,000 in 1924 to $375,000 in 1928 for the purchase on credit of equipment for both farmers and artisans. The percentage of repayments on loans made made forms the subject of another chart. Pictures of work shops illustrate the uses to which the equipment is put and typify among the workers many men and women whose facial expression denotes a change that they have undergone, and their eagerness to do the possible.

The Women’s Committee of the Ort in charge of the exhibition included Dr. Anna Boudin, Mrs. Leon Harris, Mrs. Jacob Panken, Mrs. Alexander Dolowitz, Mrs. Fannie Shluger, Mrs. Jeannette London, and Dr. Ida Herman.

Mrs. Herbert H. Lehman, wife of the Lieutenant-Governor, headed the list of sponsors. The exhibition will be on view a week.
