ORT installed a state-of-the-art science lab at Panama City’s progressive Jewish school.
The new laboratory at the Isaac Rabin School, with 235 elementary and high school students, is ORT’s “letter of introduction to Panama,” said World ORT Representative in Latin America Isidoro Gorodischer. “It will pave the way for many more ORT projects for the country’s 7,000 Jews as well as help for the wider community through World ORT’s International Cooperation Department. â€
The Rabin school, founded in 2000, is known for its emphasis on scientific studies. Teacher training and technical assistance are part of the package.
A similar project is planned next year for Panama City’s modern Orthodox school, the Albert Einstein Institute.
ORT already has undertaken this kind of project in Chile, where it has installed dozens of such facilities at public schools throughout Chile with the support of the Coca Cola Foundation.
ORT America has pledged $3 million to the Latin American Campaign, which includes a new high school for Buenos Aires, scholarships for students at ORT Uruguay University, a digital media center for Mexico City and smaller projects for Brazil, Peru, and Panama.
