Dr. David Lvovitch, executive vice-president of the World ort Federation, said last night that Jewish industries in Poland and Rumania could be saved from expropriation by ensuring that the personnel is Jewish, and thus making it impossible for the governments to remove Jews without destroying the industries.
Dr. Lvovitch, who recently arrived here after an extended survey in Germany and Poland told some 800 persons at the annual membership meeting of the American ort Federation, held at the Hotel Pennsylvania, that it was essential to train Jews to take their places in industry and thus help to keep them in Jewish hands.
In Germany, he said, Jewish enterprises were taken over by “Aryans” because the personnel was largely non-Jewish and it was only necessary to remove the Jewish owner. In Poland and Rumania, however, the workers are usually Jewish, too, and therefore the enterprises could hardly be taken over. He pointed out the percentage of Polish industry in Jewish hand increased from about 31 in 1921 to 40 in 1931.
