The overwhelming concern of the ORT committees in Tunisia and Morocco is the maintenance of the Jewish character of the ORT vocational training schools in those countries, Prof. William Haber, president of the central committee of the World ORT Union, told the JTA here today upon the completion of a tour of ORT installations in North Africa.
“The ORT is determined, with the support of local committees, to maintain its schools as primarily institutions for Jewish youth,” he added, “and we have every hope that this objective can be maintained.” He reported cordial conversations with senior officials in the Tunisian and Moroccan education ministries. He disclosed that nearly 2,000 Jewish youths in the two countries had been given apprenticeship training which permitted them to obtain semi-technical positions and increase their earning power.
