The creation of a financial apparatus which is to help American Jews to send tools and machinery to their relatives in Europe, was determined upon at a banquet of the Executive Committee of the American Ort, held Monday night at the Hotel Hamilton. Forty guests were present.
Dr. Henry Moskowitz, chairman of the Executive Committee, presided. Judge Jacob Panken, President of the Ort, outlined the necessity of a constructive plan of “relative to relative” help in the form of an installment system. Dr. David Lvovitch, European representative who recently visited Russia, described conditions there. Dr. Frank Rosenblatt, chairman of the Tools Committee, reported that many applications for aid had been received from European relatives of American Jews. L. B. Boudin, member of the Executive committee, presented the legal aspect of the situation.
A motion was unanimously passed accepting in principal the recommendation that a financial organization be established and that a sub-committee of nine be appointed to work out a practical plan to be submitted to another meeting which is to be held in two weeks.

An essay contest to be conducted as a memorial to Dr. Aaron Ember has been planned by the Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Associations of Baltimore. Dr. Ember, who was head of the department of Egyptology at Johns Hopkins University, was burned to death last summer when his home was destroyed by fire.
The contest is open to any person in Baltimore between the ages of 18 and 30, and essays must be submitted not later than May 1. They must be at least 2,500 words. The subject will be “Maimonides” Judges who will award prizes of $50, $30 and $20 will be Rabbi Adoph Coblenz, Rabbi William Rosenau and Dr. Israel L Efros.
The Avukah students’ Zionist organization will give a dinner for the British University Zionist debating team on next Thursday at the Commodore. Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Dr. David de Sola Pool, Professor Richard Gottheil of Columbia University and Dr. Jacob Sonderling will speak. The two organizations will debate, “Resolved That the Jewish Homeland be Rebuilt on the Model of the Mosaic State,” on April 18 and 19.
A motion to dismiss the suit filed by the Kosher Sausage Company of Chicago against fifty individuals and corporate defendants, was denied by Federal Judge Walter C. Lindley and the attorneys were granted time in which to prepare the case for trial at a later date.
The Kosher Sausage company asks for $180,000 damages and a permanent injunction restraining the defendants from interfering with its business.
The temporary injunction issued by Federal Judge James H. Wilkerson last week is effective now. The Meat Peddlers’ Association, of which Max Eisen is business agent, is one of the defendants.
Forty institutions in Tel Aviv acting on behalf of the needy for whom they provide and six hundred families besides, a total of about 18,000 persons, have addressed petitions to the committee which was appointed by Nathan Straus to distribute the sum of $20,000, which he allocated when in Palestine for relief purposes in Tel-Aviv.
The committee has announced that it is not giving any constructive relief and no temporary relief nor money for the purchase of Matzoth for Passover. The committee will only provide immideiate relief for those who require help at once in order to tide them over the immediate needs of the moment.
