The World ORT Union executive committee pledged $132,000 for an expansion of the ORT school network in France, and creation of new vocational training centers in southwestern France for Algerian Jewish refugees, it was announced here today.
The decision was taken in response to a plea by Daniel Mayer, chairman, and Dr. William Haber, ORT central board president, to provide funds for the emergency vocational training program for the Algerian Jews arriving in France. The program was submitted by F. Schrager, director of ORT in France.
Dr. Haber reported to the delegates on his trip to Israel, India and Australia. Reports also were heard on ORT programs in Israel, Algeria, and North Africa, The executive committee approved reports on the ORT technical assistance program in Switzerland, Israel, and Guinea; and expressed satisfaction for the close ties between the World ORT Union and the Swiss, Israeli and United States governments in the field.
