The official opening of the first ORT training school at a civilian internment camp took place at Fort Lennox, Quebec yesterday. Lord Marley, British labor peer, was the principal speaker.
The camp is maintained for Jewish internees sent to Canada from England in the early days of the war because they were of German or Austrian nationality. On completing their training, the men will be employed in government plants reconditioning and repairing machinery.
Other speakers at the opening ceremonies were Dr. E. Coleman, Dominion Undersecretary of State; Dr. David Lvovitch, vice-president of the World ORT; Samuel Bronfman, president of the Canadian Jewish Congress; Morris Finestone, secretary of United Hebrew Trades, New York; Aaron B. Tart, executive vice-chairman of the American ORT, representing George Backer of New York, president of the organization; Samuel Marshal, technical adviser, and Louis Fitch, president of the Canadian ORT. A number of high-ranking Canadian army officers were also present.
