A new plan of activity for the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations for the coming year was presented at a recent meeting of the Union by Isaac Rosengarten, the newly elected executive director of the Union. The plan calls for the appointment by each congregation of five committees, one each for Sabbath, Kashruth, Jewish Education, Family Purity and Palestine. It is planned to have the Union act as a unifying force in bringing together all those working for each of these phases of Orthodox Judaism.
A resolution denouncing the British White Paper on Palestine was adopted by the meeting, after an address by the Rev. Dr. H. Pereira Mendes, one of the founders of the Union, who recently returned from a visit to Palestine. Jews have every reason to be proud of what they have accomplished in Palestine, said Dr. Mendes, but England seems to have gone back on her record.
Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, was chairman at the meeting. The headquarters of the Union have recently been moved to the Yeshivah College Building.
