The 66th national biennial convention of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America closed today with an appeal by National President Moses Feuerstein to Soviet leaders to eliminate anti-Semitism and adoption of resolutions condemning recent West German attitudes, questioning “Sunday laws,” and calling for a White House conference on public morality.
The convention said in a resolution on Germany that it was “appalled” that mild sentences of war criminals and termination of the statute of limitations made a mockery of the judicial processes. The resolution also said that “the spirit of repentance for which we would earnestly look in the German people is not apparent in their Government’s refusal to curtail the contributions now being made by German rocket and warfare experts to the war machine of Egypt.”
In another resolution, delegates voiced “deep concern” over “repeated intrusions” into the authority of the duly authorized Israel rabbinate by secular courts rulings in Israel.
