Orthodox groups in the United States are calling for a day of prayer and fasting Wednesday as a response to the mounting violence in the Middle East. Among the several groups calling for the fast are the Rabbinical Council of America and the Orthodox Union, which said in a joint statement that the situation in Israel is “truly bewildering, discouraging and even depressing not only for our brothers and sisters who reside there, but also for all Jews no matter where they live.”
