Renewed activity of Orthodox congregations in the West was reported by Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America and Rabbi of the Institutional Synagogue, who returned from a tour through the western section of the United States.
Through the medium of the Wisconsin and Indiana Branches of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, of which Rabbi M. J. Mintz. of Milwaukee, is the head, steps are being taken to provide Jewish students of the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, with Kosher food. Similar efforts are about to be made in the State of California, for the University of California in Berkley, through the efforts of Rabbi S. M. Neches, of Los Angeles. Rabbi Goldstein stated:
“Orthodox Jewry is woefully disorganized, though it is numerically in the great majority of the Jewish population in the west,” he said. “I have come back convinced more than ever of the urgent necessity for sending out teachers and religious welfare workers to organize the communities for religious education, religious services and the general spiritual welfare of our young men and young women.”
