A delegation, composed of some of the most prominent orthodox Jews of this city, today called upon the head of the Vienna Jewish community and protested against the attempts “of a few extravagant orthodox Jews to split the Jewish ranks.”
The delegation declared that the prime task of the moment was to preserve the unity of the Jewish community in view of the crisis affecting all Austrian Jewry.
The visit followed the action of the Schiff Schul, extreme orthodox element, in approving of the course of the government of Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg in setting up ghetto schools and asking for the establishment of a separate orthodox community.
Austrian authorities used this action in demonstrating to foreign public opinion that even Austrian Jews approved of the ghetto schools.
