The head of the Rabbinical Alliance of America (Orthodox), assailed the president of the New York Board of Rabbis today for attending the funeral rites of the late Francis Cardinal Spellman here last week. Rabbi Bernard Weinberger, president of the Alliance, called the presence of Rabbi Edward T. Sandrow at the funeral an illustration of how “leaders of the Reform and Conservative camps emasculate religious commitments for the sake of superficial good fellowship.”
Rabbi Weinberger said that, while the Jewish community “should have been expected to offer its condolences on the passing of an important church leader, that should not include actual participation in the liturgical services of the church.”
