Orthodox representatives on the Haifa religious council dispersed a meeting of the council soon after it opened. The meeting came after Israel’s Chief Rabbinate granted permission to the eight Orthodox members of the council to participate in the meeting with Reform and Conservative representatives. Had the Orthodox representatives not taken part in the meeting, the non-Orthodox members would have been authorized to make decisions regarding key posts.
