The two-day meeting of the executive session of the World OSE Union concluded here today with a press conference addressed by Abel Shaban, chairman of the executive, who reported on the recent Pan-American OSE conference and the health situation of the Jews living in 22 countries of Central and South America, Mr. Shaban paid especial tribute to Mexican Jewry and pointed out that in Mexico, 85 percent of the Jewish children attended Jewish schools recognized by the government.

The OSE leader stated that the executive meeting had emphasized OSE’s desire to intensify its attachment to Judaism. “Operating as a health agency does not mean that OSE wants to operate in a vacuum, removed from Jewish problems,” he said. “World OSE wants to strengthen its links with national groups and plans to strengthen its North African and Israel programs.” Discussing OSE’s work in Israel, he added that the problem there was primarily financial and it is hoped to resolve this problem with the assistance of the Joint Distribution Committee.
